The Cleveland Browns had a very disappointing season last year after being “offseason champs” last season. They are looking to change the narrative this time around with their new head coach and general manager. General Manager Andrew Berry said he wanted to be aggressive this free agency by adding key pieces to the young talented roster. Berry and Head Coach Kevin Stefanski look to add players that fit Coach Stefanski’system. Some of the key positions that the Browns will need to fill are: LT, RT, RG, WR, FB, LBs, DL, and Safeties. Andrew Berry has done almost all of that so far, the past week. He has added: TE Austin Hooper, OT Jack Conklin, QB Case Keenum, LB BJ Goodson, Safety Karl Joseph, DL Andrew Billings, CB Kevin Johnson, WR Jo Jo Natson, and traded for FB Andy Janovich. These are all solid key pieces that Berry has added, and he has got them all at great price tags. Each of these players will contribute to the Browns in some way. Austin Hooper brings in another weapon to the offense along with Jarvis Landry, OBJ, Njoku, Chubb, and restricted free agent Kareem Hunt (most likely to be back). Offensive Line was a struggle for the Browns last season, and they add one of the top offensive tackles in free agency with Jack Conklin which will be a big help to the offense. To help out the young QB Baker Mayfield, Andrew Berry brings in Case Keenum as back up QB to bring that veteran experience to the QB room. In addition, Keenum is familiar with this offense as Head Coach Kevin Stefanski was his offensive coordinator for when he played for the Vikings. Other offensive players that have been added have been a fullback which is key for Kevin Stefanski’s offense by trading for Andy Janovich from the Broncos. Janovich will help push Nick Chubb have another great season. On the other side of the ball, Andrew Berry has addressed some key positions on defense as well. He added some needs and some depth. The depth he added was at the cornerback position with adding former Buffalo Bill last season Kevin Johnson. Johnson can play nickel corner as well as playing on the outside which will replace TJ Carrie. The other depth addition was DL Andrew Billings who spent last year with the Bengals and started 14 of the 16 games. Billings is a solid young DL that will be thrown in rotation with Sheldon Richardson and Larry Ogunjobi. Berry addresses needs as well by adding LB BJ Goodson and Safety Karl Joseph. Veteran LB BJ Goodson is added to help young linebackers Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki develop. The addition I loved was Safety Karl Joseph. Joseph is a safety that flies around the field when he’s healthy and plays different positions on the field. Andrew Berry is having a great off season in his first year as GM of the Browns, but the off season isn’t over with and he’s not done making moves. As Browns fans, we know that games aren’t won in the off season so we can only wait to see what they unfold as.
